It’s been a minute since I picked up a book and found it truly, unreadably bad. This has everything to do with the fact that most of my reading is dictated by research, blurbs, comp titles, and—on the rare occasions I find time to read purely for pleasure—recommendations from trusted friends who know my taste. But every now and then I pick something up based on the cover or the title or the subject and dive in totally blind.
